The mysterious and completely true case of the missing snapping turtle
It’s the first day of 2014 and I celebrated by finishing the colours for this short comic I initially did for a summer anthology Quick and Dirty back in September.
The mysterious and completely true case of the missing snapping turtle was drawn with rapidograph pen on vellum, the line work printed onto watercolour paper at a super low opacity and the colours painted on like a brutal aquatic colour-by-numbers with a Windsor and Newton set.
I wrote the comic after spending time with the North American Freshwater Turtle Research Group at Wekiwa Springs in Florida in July. These guys are an amazing crew of volunteers who work hard to record turtle populations and it was a privilege to snorkel with them.

And stay tuned for a wild 20 page journalism comic I’ve drawn about the group and have nearly finished colouring…
